A Lesson from Flowers
Flowers are at their most beautiful just before the first frost. I look out my window and think on my gorgeous red roses. I am reminded that the circle of life is often painful. I know what is in store for each flower, and I’m reminded to cherish the beauty of the current moment. It is such a shame that beauty is so short-lived. Beautiful flowers have a message for us. They tell us to enjoy each moment of life. We must take the time to truly appreciate the flowers.
After retiring from teaching, I worked for a florist in a small town in Southwest Missouri. Mark taught me the secret to making flowers last was to take special care of them. Fresh water was the most crucial part in making the blooms last. We need to be reminded to take care of our God given bodies. Flowers would not grow without water, sun, and light.
I live each day with thoughts of how many years are left on this earth. Make each day count and know that the best is yet to come. “You’re only here for a short visit. Don’t worry. And be sure to smell the flowers along the way.” Walter Hagen.
